The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, through the Bait Al-Sinnari affiliated with the Cultural Communication Sector, in cooperation with the DAI Performing Arts and Inclusive Theater team, is organizing the theatrical performance “40 Miles Northward” on Thursday, February 29th, at 7 PM at the historic Bait Al-Sinnari in Sayeda Zeinab district, Cairo.
Written by Abd Elrahman Al Hamamsi and directed by Salma Mohamed Abdel Nabi, the play tells the story of eleven migrants embarking on a perilous journey across the sea in a small boat, led by a fisherman navigating towards the unknown.
Throughout their journey, they face immense challenges that force them to make a fateful decision: sacrificing two of their own to abandon the boat and save the others.
During these tense moments, their stories and motivations for undertaking this journey are revealed. As tension rises, the coast guard arrives to surround them.
This performance aims to highlight the significance of theater as a means of artistic and cultural expression and to strengthen social bonds within the community.
It also seeks to provide the audience with a unique theatrical experience that delivers positive messages to uplift society and combat negative phenomena.
Moreover, the performance sheds light on the talents of artists with disabilities and encourages the emergence of promising young talents in the field of theater.
It is worth noting that the inclusive theatrical performance “40 Miles Northward” is the graduation project of the second batch of the theater actor preparation workshop held at the Bait Al-Sinnari .
Through its annual project, the DAI Performing Arts and Inclusive Theater team aims to graduate two batches, one in theater acting and the other in playwriting and writing.
